Koto Tanto & Koshirae

The proverbial, driven by a little old lady only on Sundays to church and back, this tanto was brought to Hawaii around 1900.  Mumei takenobazukure (bamboo leaf).  Suguba nioi deki, itame hada.  Ubu nakgo, four mekugiana (two overlapping).  Hawatare:  9 sun 2 bu (28 cm / 11.02").  Motohaba: 2.59 cm.  Kasane: 3 mm. Shinogi: 5.5 mm.  Nioi deki suguba.  Itame hada, some nagare.  In polish and shirasaya, silver foil habaki.   Never submitted for shinsa.

The koshirae is intact.  Samenori saya with horn fittings.  The tsuka is high quality lacquered multi-string ito, simulating leather, with shakudo nanako fuchi-kashira of sea themes.  Shakudo and gilt menuki.  The shinchu tsuba is signed Yanagawa Naomasa, the kozuka is Hamano Nara.
