SOLD

A suriage, machiokure Muromachi period katana signed niji mei, Kagemitsu.  Shinogizukure, iroi mune, chu kissaki.  Hawatare:  2 shaku 2 sun 0 bu (66.7 cm / 26.26").   Motohaba:  2.7 cm.  Sakihaba:  1.73 cm.  Kasane:  5.5 mm.  The hamon is nioi deki ko choji ko gunome midare, shimiru, nado.  The jigane is a running itame, with some small ware.  The boshi is ko maru.   The tsuba is plain iron.  The fuchi-kashira are shakudo with gold highlights, of  a male and female shishi and a pup in taka zogan.  The drawing of the shishi on the kashira looks very much like a Jingo dragon.  The shishi menuki appear to be a married set, as one is shakudo and the other copper.  Good quality lacquer saya is damaged.

If the signature is genuine, this would probably be Akasaka Senjuen of the Muromachi period.  The school used several important Bizen smith's names like Nagamitsu, Kanemitsu, Kagemitsu, etc.   This is for the martial artist or decorator.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   $1,500
