OLSA red copper Awa Shoami tsuba with an ishime ground, shakudo crab on a gilt bamboo leaf, and a shakudo mimi. A silver river inlaid on the reverse. There also appears to be an animal done in the ishime on the top on the reverse. Face 7.35 cm x 6.96 cm x 4.6 mm at the mimi. Great condition and patina. One of the characteristics of Awa Shoami are the mirror image hitsuana.
The Awa Shoami are skillful and artful, but are generally under rated due to political conflicts in the late Edo times. A good addition to a collection. $400.
