Yoshioka Ichimonji Wakizashi

A very fine Yoshioka Ichimonji wakizashi o-suriage, mumei. Hawatare 1 shaku 2 sun 5 bu ( 38.878 cm. or 14.91 inches). Shinogizukure, iroi mune, smallish chu kissaki bordering on kikubi. The jigane is a ko itame with ko mokume mixed in, choji midare utsure. The hamon is nioi deki choji midare. There are fine kinsuji and hataraki. The habuchi is exceptionally wide and soft, becoming tighter and the hamon more organized toward the front of the blade. There is a bo hi that runs through the nakago. This sword is from the latter part of Kamakura. Miyano faction of the NTHK kanteisho. Mounted inshirassaya with a fitted gold foil habaki. This sword has never been submitted for Juyo shinsa, and sloud be a good candidate.

The Yoshioka Ichimonji ran from around Sho-o (1288 - 1293) to around Shohei (1346 - 1370). They were descendants of the Fukaoka Ichimonji, and were named for their location. It is believed that the founder of the school, Yoshioka Sukeyoshi, was the grandson of Fukaoka Ichimonji Sukemune. $13,250
