Yoshioka Ichimonji - Juyo #47

Yoshioka Ichimonji katana o-suriage, mumei.  Hawatare 2 shaku 0 sun 3 bu  (61.51 cm. or 24.22 inches).  Shinogizukure, iroi mune, smallish chu kissaki bordering on kikubi.  The jigane is an itame with ko mokume nagare mixed in,  chikei and a very strong choji midare utsure.  The hamon is nioi deki choji midare, with a tighter habuchi than seen in Fukaoka.  There are gifu and a great deal of hataraki.  Although this blade is nioi deki, there are many nie patterns, kinsuji,  nado.  There is a bo hi and soe bi that run through the nakago.  This sword is from the latter part of Kamakura.

Niju gold foil habaki.  There is sayagaki by Tanobe Michihiro stating that this blade is chinchinchocho.  Chincho is an especially precious treasure, and the doubling is for emphasis.

The Yoshioka Ichimonji ran from around Sho-o (1288 - 1293) to around Shohei (1346 - 1370).  They were descendants of the Fukaoka Ichimonji, and were named for their location.  It is believed that the  founder of the school, Yoshioka Sukeyoshi, was the grandson of Fukaoka Ichimonji Sukemune.
