Yamakichibei Tsuba

TS0352

SOLD

A very strong large tsuba signed, Yamakichibei.  8.17 cm x 7.91 cm x 4.8 mm.  A slight hammered mimi.  The image of a bird  and jars, or perhaps a kite and tops.  Profuse fine granular tekotsu.   Excellent color and condition.  In a custom fitted box, NBTHK hozon kanteisho.

THE PROBLEM:  I am sure that none of you have any idea how much I hate when this happens.   This was included in a collection of tsuba I bought.  I sold this piece for a good piece of money, only to discover that the papers had been altered.  The notation of Kodai (later generation) had been removed, so the certificate passed the tsuba as shodai or nidai.   So now, I am offering a signed, certified, later generation Yamakichibei tsuba with altered NBTHK kanteisho, that I can guarantee is not by one of the first three generations.  I have blown up the altered portion of the kanteisho, which clearly shows the deception.  Still this is a very good item, though short of what I had thought it to be.

Rough Area Where Kodai (later generation) Was Removed.  Note compromised kanji to the left and above.
