Shinto Mumei Wakizashi

S0202

SOLD

Mumei wakizashi, shinogizukure, chu kissaki, shallow sori, slight taper from machi to yokote. Hawatare:  1 shaku 7 sun 6 bu 9 rin (53.6 cm or 21.1").  The hamon is based in ko nie, gunome, hako gunome, togare, tobiyaki, ashi iri, tight sunagashi, a bright kinsuji.  While I was unable to get good -- or even reasonable pictures, I was able to find the spitting image of the hamon of Iga no Kami Kinmichi in Juyo Token Nado Zufu, Vol. 50.  Like this Kinmichi, this blade is largely gunome and hako gunome on one side, and the togareba is on the other.  The boshi has been abraded, and I am unable to see it clearly, it appears to be a Mishina boshi.  The jigane is difficult to read, but appears to be itame.  The blade is health and robust without any kizu, chips or damage.  There is ji nie and chikei.  Mounted in old shirasaya with sayagaki.  Unfortunately, it was written with a brush and with age, it is impossible for me to count the strokes, so it remains unread.  Niju gold foil habaki.

The sugata is classically Kambun shinto, with lesser taper, I would have called it Keicho shinto, which would have made my life easier.  Although unsigned shinto are problematic, this blade should be polished.
