Sanmae Tsuba

A large intact sanmae tsuba, flowers and foliage on fine silvered nanako plate. Momoyama or early Edo. 7.5 cm x 7.3 cm x 4 mm. Sanmae are made with mirror image thin plate on the fron and back, afixed to a copper core and fitted with a mimi. This allowed production of tuba without the expense of a mixed metal core. These frequently come apart, so it is a pleasure to see one in this condition. $350
