Momoyama / Early Edo Tsuba
TS0385
An easily overlooked iron tsuba from Momoyama or early Edo. 7.06 cm x 6.84 cm x 3.3 mm at the mimi and 5.1 mm at the seppa dai. The carved surface is decorated with gold uttori, gold foil applied to the surface, not plated. The sekigane is very thin well fitted shakudo. Neither of these features were inexpensive at the time. The plate is dense, with tekotsu. An interesting piece, perhaps a bit long in the tooth. $250
