Kuro Chawan
LST003
Taking into consideration that this is not, as first assumed, an antique chawan, and that this is a married box, we will ignore the earlier purchase price and mark it at $250 + shipping.
A boxed Black teabowl 12.065 cm x 8.5725 cm. Black with brown on bottom fourth and up one side with gold splotches in the mid-section. Maker's stamp on the bottom, but I have not been able to identify the potter.
Ex Skip Holbrook collection. Purchased from the estate of a Japanese collector and dealer in teabowls. Boxed, hakogaki Kurojaiwan, signed and with a red stamp. Lable on the box:
This is a 20th century teabowl by Masabumi. It was identified by his cousin, who wrote: "正文 Masabumi is my late cousin who was a potter in Seto city, Aichi prefecture".
Note from Skip Holbrook dated 10/22/15 offering the bowl at $500.
Though not antique, still a very good teabowl well worth collecting, and/or using. $250.
