Kato Shigemitsu Tsuba

A very strong tsuba by Kato Shigemitsu done in the style of Kaneiye. 7.92 cm x 7.62 cm x 3.9 mm. A wonderfully forged plate with martinsite crystals easily visible on the surface and tekotsu in the rim. Excellent color and and condition. Certficate from the Nihon Tosogu Bijitsu Kan.
Shigemitsu was a samurai who worked for the Matsudaira Daimyo. He was a student of the second generation Yokoya Soyo. (Haynes, H 8953.0). Usually his pieces are not signed. There is a soft metal example of his work on my Kinko page K0037
