Hoan Kanenobu Tsuba

An important tsuba by Hoan Kanenobu. Signed, Ho [kao] Kanenobu. 7.86 cm x 7.76 cm x 4.2 mm at the mimi. Wonderfully dense and well forged iron, graining and granular tekotsu visible on the face. Great color and condition.
Born in Owari in 1600, he later moved to Hiroshima. He was the second Hoan master. The majority of his signed work are not in the acid etched style associated with the Hoan school, but are often solid plate, round and goishigata (honorific stone shaped).
