Cart Wheel Mon Tsuba
TS0326
A large very well forged and dense iron tsuba decorated with waterwheels on an ishime ground. 8.24 cm x8.13 cm 4.6 mm. The cart wheels are in shakudo and shibuichi, detailed in honzogan gold wire. Kanteisho from the Nihon Tosogu Bijitsu Kan, dated Heisei 13 (2001), attributing the tsuba to Kyo Shoami late Edo period. This is very impressive tsuba, and one that I like personally a great deal. This Mon is associated with the Akimoto, Noma, Nomura and Sato, as well as the most famous association is with the Tatebayashi daimyo family in Kozuke and the sengoku-jidai daimyo Sakakikabara Yasaumasa.
